Praying with the Right Motives

by Toby Lofton in Prayer0 Comments

Prayer is a profound and essential aspect of our faith journey. It's a direct line of communication with our Heavenly Father, a channel through which we can seek His guidance, blessings, and the desires of our hearts. As Jesus taught, God is eager to grant us good things when we ask. However, there's a crucial factor we must consider - the motives behind our prayers.

In Matthew 7:11, Jesus reassures us that our Father in heaven is generous and delights in giving good things to His children. Luke 11:1-13 further emphasizes this by highlighting that when we ask for the Holy Spirit and what we need to fulfill God's calling, our Father willingly bestows these blessings upon us.

However, James reminds us in his letter that not all prayers receive answers. He explains that sometimes we don't receive what we ask for because our motives are not right. When our prayers are driven by selfish and worldly desires rather than a genuine desire to serve and glorify God, we miss the mark.

To ensure we pray with the right motives, we must take a moment to examine our hearts. Drawing near to God, purifying our motives, and humbling ourselves are vital steps. This introspection allows us to align our desires with God's will, ensuring that we seek what will enable us to become the person He calls us to be.

When we earnestly seek God's will in our prayers, we can have confidence that He will answer. Our Heavenly Father delights in providing us with the tools, blessings, and guidance necessary to fulfill His purpose for our lives.

Prayer is not just about making requests but also about aligning our hearts with God's desires. When we seek His will and pray with pure motives, we tap into the incredible power of prayer. Our Heavenly Father eagerly responds, bestowing upon us the good things that will enable us to become the people He calls us to be. So, let us approach prayer with a heart set on glorifying and serving God, knowing that He will hear and answer our prayers according to His perfect will.
