Stillness is one of the rarest gifts in our modern world. Noise surrounds us. External noise from responsibilities, conversations, and constant notifications. Internal noise from our thoughts, worries, and expectations. Yet into this swirl of activity, God speaks a simple, steadying invitation: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

This verse is not a suggestion for a peaceful afternoon; it is a call to trust. The psalm itself describes upheaval: nations in turmoil, shaking mountains, and roaring waters. And right in the middle of chaos, God says, “Be still.” Not because the world is calm, but because He is.

Stillness is not the absence of movement; it is the presence of surrender. It is choosing to pause long enough to remember who God is and who we are in Him. Stillness is stepping out of the rush to anchor ourselves in the One who never rushes, never panics, never loses control.

After the excitement of Christmas, the days between the holiday and the new year often feel like a strange in-between space. The celebrations are winding down, yet the new year has not begun. This is a perfect moment to lean into stillness, breathing, reflecting, and listening.

Stillness creates space for God to speak. It opens our hearts to His peace. Stillness reminds us our productivity, our pace, or our performance does not define us. God’s love defines us.

Today, take a few minutes to be still before God. You don’t need a long prayer or a perfect setting. Sit in His presence. Let your breathing slow. Relax your shoulders. Let your mind settle. Whisper His name. Invite God into the quiet.

As you do, remember that God is not distant. He is near. He is present in your questions, your hopes, your uncertainties, and your longings. God is the steady foundation beneath your feet and the gentle voice that calms your soul.

Stillness does not waste time. It is sacred time. Stillness is the place where we remember God is God—and He holds us.

Prayer:
Lord, open my eyes to see You in the everyday moments. Help me rest in Your presence and trust Your heart. Quiet the noise within me and around me, letting Your peace fill my soul. Amen.
