The day after Christmas often feels like a deep exhale. The gifts have been opened, the meals enjoyed, the gatherings quieted. But spiritually, this day is anything but ordinary. In fact, the miracle of Christmas continues to unfold long after December 25 has passed. The birth of Jesus is not a moment we celebrate and then move on from. It is the beginning of God’s love story written in flesh and blood.
John writes, “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world…” (1 John 4:9). Notice the language: God showed His love. Love is not merely something God feels; it is something He demonstrates. And the greatest demonstration of His love was sending Jesus to dwell among us.
Think about that for a moment. The God who created galaxies, who spoke light into existence, who holds the universe together by His power, chose to come near. He chose to enter our world not as a distant deity but as a vulnerable child. He chose to walk our roads, feel our pain, experience our limitations, and bear our sin. This is love that moves toward us, not away from us. Love that pursues, rescues, and restores.
Today, as the world shifts back into routine, let your heart linger on this truth. God’s love didn’t stay in the manger. It continues to reach into every corner of your life. His love meets you in your joy and in your sorrow. God’s love is present in your questions and in your confidence. His love is steady when everything else feels uncertain. And His love is personal. God directs it toward you with intention and delight.
Maybe today feels quiet. Perhaps it feels heavy. It could just feel ordinary. But the love of God is anything but ordinary. It is active, alive, and at work in you right now. Let this day be a reminder that you are deeply, unconditionally loved, not because of what you’ve done, but because of who God is.
Take a moment to rest in that love. Let it wash over your heart. Allow it to soften the places that feel hardened. Let it strengthen the places that feel weak. Let it remind you that you belong to Him.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of Your unfailing love. Help me carry that love into every conversation and every moment today. Let Your love shape my thoughts, guide my actions, and fill my heart with peace. Amen.
