New Year’s resolutions have been cast. Many dream of a closer walk with Christ. People want to take their faith to the next level.
Despite good intentions, people will fail to have the faith they want. They will not make it.
This is Part 2 in a series that looks at 7 reasons people fail. Last week, we discussed the fear of succeeding. This week, we will discuss the opposite of that fear. We will discuss the fear of failing.
The Fear of Failing
The fear of failing is the second reason people will fail to have the faith they desire. The fear of failing sets you up to fail in the first place.
With a fear of failing, you will focus on the fear rather than succeeding. Like the Apostle Peter, as long as his eyes were on Jesus, he could walk on water. But as soon as he looked at his fear, he began to fail.
Fear is a partner to failing. The two team up in effort to prevent you from succeeding.
The fear of failing will remind you of previous failures. The fear of failing whispers in your ear that you cannot do it.
The Apostle John taught there was no fear in the love of God. If a voice in your head is telling you that you can’t do it, that you will fail, it is not from God. The ancient monastics taught such voices originated from Satan. God would not ask you to do something or be somebody you couldn’t be.
How to Fix Being Scared of Failing
First, ensure you are seeking what God would want for you. Make sure your intent is God’s intent.
Second, realize that if God is calling you to be or to do something, God will provide you with everything you need to be or do.
Third, understand that failure is opportunity. Failure is an opportunity for you to discover where you went wrong. Failure helps you to see what doesn’t work.
While many people see failure as a setback, failure is actually a set up for a comeback. It is actually helping you.
Failure is not a negative. Failure is a positive.
Robert Kiyosaki teaches that the secret to success is to fail as fast as you can. The principle is to stop seeing failure as hindering your progress. Failure aids your progress.
Once you begin to view failure in this manner, you stop fearing it.
Make Failure Serve You
Don’t let the fear of failing keep you from becoming who God is calling you to be. Turn the fear of failing on its head. Make failure an instrument you use to get to where you are going quicker.
