Imagine
Imagine God spoke to you. God told you to go to a specific place that overlooked your community.
Obediently you follow God’s command. You get up from what you are doing. You travel to the designated location.
At that location, where you can see your entire community, God speaks to you again. God says,
“I have called you here. I am sending you to your community. You are to make disciples of your neighbors. You are to tell them about my Son. You are to teach them to follow my teachings. You are to show them how to do what I am sending you to do.”
What would you do if that happened to you? How would you respond? Would you be obedient? Would you do what God instructed?
Four Questions
Here are four questions you might consider:
- What must happen for you to be successful at what God has instructed?
- What will be the biggest challenges you will face?
- Where will the biggest opportunities for success come from?
- What will you need to learn and develop to overcome the challenges and capture the opportunities?
Stop Imagining
The Great Commission is not imagination. God has told you to go make disciples. God did so through his Son. Jesus said,
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19, NRSV).
What are you going to do? How are you going to respond? Will you be obedient? Will you do what God has instructed?
Four Questions Again
Considering the four questions will help you. Take the questions seriously this time. Write out your answers.
- What must happen for you to be successful at what God has instructed?
- What are the biggest challenges you will face?
- Where will the biggest opportunities for success come from?
- What do you need to learn and develop to overcome the challenges and capture the opportunities?
Knowing the answers to the four questions provides your next steps. Start doing what will make you successful. Learn what you need to overcome the challenges. Take advantage of the opportunities. Do your answers to the questions and be faithful to Jesus Christ.
